New Medical Certification Requirements for CDL Holders in Effect.

State driver licensing agencies will now add Commercial drivers' medical certification status and the information from their medical examiner's certificate to the Commercial driver's license system record.  The physical qualification requirements for drivers will not change.

Drivers must certify to their State agency which in which type of commerce they are operating (Interstate non- excepted, Interstate excepted, Intrastate non- excepted, or Intrastate excepted) as well as provide a copy of their new DOT medical cards prior to the expiration of their current card.

The new rules went into effect January 30, 2012 and drivers must provide the new information no later than January 30. 2014.  More specific information can be found on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's website, including state by state requirements.
