Attention truck drivers: new crossover mirror law goes into effect next week

New York's new crossover mirror law goes into effect on Friday, January 13, 2012.  The law requires the mirrors for commercial vehicles registered in New York State, weighing at least 26,000, that operate on NYC streets (with the exception of expressways).

Crossover mirrors allow drivers to see people who are at least three feet tall crossing in front of the vehicle at least one foot away.  The law is "designed to reduce the risk of pedestrian deaths and injuries which can occur when truck drivers are unable to see persons directly in front of their vehicles," according to the legislation.
