The End of an Era: NYC Removes Last Single Space Parking Meter from Manhattan

New York City retired the last decommissioned single- space parking meter on Monday, in its effort to convert the entire city to electronic muni meter machines.  Muni meter machines can service eight parking spaces at one time and can be shut down on Sundays (when parking is free city-wide).  They also accept credit cards, speak seven languages,  and require less maintenance and sidewalk space.
The city plans to auction off thousands of the retired parking meters next year.
